Bring Intensity to the Gym while hitting those Legs..

Lets say you only have 20-30 minutes to get a workout in.  I designed a very high intense leg routine consisting of 1 large Giant set.  This will have 6 different exercises including Leg Press, Leg Extension, Squat, Seated Calf, Standing Calf and Leg Press Calf.  Each Exercise is 50 reps for a total of 300 reps.  I want you to time this routine and let me know what you get it in.  I started with Leg Press at 405 lbs, then plate loaded hammer Leg Extension 25lbs each side, 185lbs on smith machine sqaut, 200lbs of seated calf, 185lbs on standing smith machine cal

What Do Your Chain Food Favorites Cost in Exercise?

Do you really know what you are putting into your body?

Why is it so easy to gain weight but hard to lose weight for a majority of people?

Do you know that it takes burning 3500 calories to lose 1 lb ?

If you split that up into 7 days you are looking at 700 calories a day you would need to do extra. There is a much easier solution to this, although I do advise bumping your cardio/activity up.

Carbohyrates- The Naked Truth

Carbohydrates, often referred to as “carbs,” are your body’s primary energy source, and they’re a crucial part of any healthy diet. Carbs should never be avoided, but it is important to understand that not all carbs are alike.

IS YOUR EGO GETTING IN THE WAY?

I was recently standing backstage at a local competition watching the awards take place and I felt disappointed in the lack of sportsmanship some of the athletes showed on stage when they obviously didnít get the placing they wanted. To me the terrible looks on their faces and horrible body language said to me that their ego just took a good blow.

The wacky world of fitness competitions … I feel sorry for all female competitors!

i attended, judged, and thoroughly enjoyed the Memorial Day Weekend Muscle Beach Classic.  For that particular holiday weekend, it was by far the best and largest group of competitors that I have seen since my involvement years ago.  We usually get about 20-30 more competitors for the 4th of July show because of the summer-like atmosphere.  Prior to Monday's event, I got an opportunity to check out the 2010 NPC California Bodybuilding, Figure, and Bikini Championships in Culver City, CA.

Summer is quickly approaching … time to clean it up!

It's that time of year again when fat burners are being snatched up by the bunches at local sports nutrition shops.  The air is warming up and everyone knows that you can't go to the beach with a beer gut … unless you don't mind the negative gawking.  If you are like me, I start early.  I don't wait until summer is in full bloom before I make necessary changes to my diet and/or bump up the cardio.  I usually start cleaning up my meals in late-March and ease into the cardio so that by mid-April, I am doing about an hour of cardio every single day.

Eating More When You Sleep Less? You Are Not Alone!

Yawn, crunch, slurp!

Have you ever noticed that, when you don’t get a full night’s sleep, your nutrition habits change a little? (And if you are trying to hold down a full-time job or class load, train and be socially active , you are likely to be living that change daily.)

WHO'S BEHIND THE MASK?

I was posed this question the other day, "David, it's so great to see your passion for fitness and photography but how come most fitness photographers and (bodybuilding/fitness) magazine editors are out of shape?" I paused for a moment as my mind raced across the list of magazine people I have met over the years.

Fitness Thought of the Week

Fitness is a daily commitment and endeavor.  It has to be something that you can and are willing to repeat day in and day out for the rest of your extended life.  I share this message with each and every one of my clients so that they can look back and reflect on how much their lives have changed for the better since embarking on their fitness journey.  As human beings, we are competitive by nature, and therefore thirst for daily challenges.

Catchin' the L-Train

It has been 8 weeks since my surgical procedure to repair a partially torn left biceps tendon and things are moving right along … probably better than I had anticipated.  I was very unsure about how much of my original strength would be recovered, but those fears are now a thing of the past as I have been able to increase my seated dumbbell curls to 60-lb for 6-8 reps.  In fact, I have been able to increase my workload substantially on all upper body movements.
