Being on the cover of Status:  Being on the cover of Status for me would be a thrill.  I have been in the fitness industry for 6 years and changed my career from a stable 9-5 job as a CPA to the love of my life, fitness.  I would be incredibly thrilled by the experience being on the cover, because my second biggest goal in the industry after achieving my status as an IFBB Pro was to be published and reach thousand of individuals to say "50 doesn't have to be the decline years", it can be your "peak" years if you work hard.  I think I give the average American hope as they age.  I want to offer that hope to others by role modeling what an active, healthy lifestyle might represent to them in the future.  Please help me reach those people!

  


Bio:         Own and operate a sole proprietor personal training business, Core Elements by Janet Lynn West, in Ellicott City, MD.  I have a diverse client base with differing fitness goals and various health/injury/rehabilitation concerns. I consult my clients in nutrition, strength training; and, how to implement a program of regular exercise (including cardio) into everyday life. My primary
goal is to help others achieve their goal.  In addition to personal training, I am a competition preparation coach for a team of athletes, Team Granite, made up of physique, figure, and bikini athletes. My personal goal for the future is to make it to the stage at the Olympia; and, then to have some of my clients do the same.

Nutrition / Supplements:  I rely upon HMX by Image-Nutrition.com for my Pre-training supplement in conjunction with glutamine and a battery of other vitamins and minerals. Nitro-Pro whey protein isolate in chocolate is my favorite protein supplement also found at Image- Nutrition.com and SPARK energy drink from Advocare are my regular staples. I may incorporate other
supplements into my diet dependent on my goals and where I am as I prepare for my competition.My diet consists of two gallons of water daily, six to seven small meals made up of several meals of fish (Cod, Orange Roughy, Tuna,Tilapia) with FRESH vegetables (asparagus, peppers, peas, green beans) and smaller meals of Egg white omelette, Chicken and Flank-steak.

 


Training: In the last six years, I have broken down my workouts to include 5 days of strength training with legs, chest, shoulders, bis and tris , back all separated out for a 45-60 minute session. I typically do at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 out of 7 days in off season and ramp this up to split cardio of approx. 35 min in the a.m. and 30 minutes in the p.m. 4-5 days a week. It is dependent on my goals for the look I am trying to achieve. Recently, I have shifted this focus now that I am competing in Bikini. It is as follows:

1) Chest, back, and shoulders
2) Quads
3) Hamstrings
4) Glutes
5) Light Total Body

I still do 5 30-minute cardio sessions with the focus on uphill walking and Stairmaster or Stepmill to hit the glutes and tighten and build rather than lose fat. 

What separates Status from any other fitness magazine:  The physiques in Status magazine are attainable physiques through determination and hard work. They represent mainstream people with big dreams that acheived a high level of success with discipline.  And status highlights these individuals.
