Are you close to throwing in the towel? With all the different diets and workout strategies out there, it can be overwhelming and confusing. This lack of direction can cause you to lose motivation, break your consistency, and cause you stress. All three of those factors can lead to losing sight of your goals.
I help clients stay on track with their diet and workouts. Accountability is so important when aiming towards a healthy lifestyle. How does one maintain the lifestyle that they want on a consistent basis? Track your progress! Track your diet and workouts. What can be measured can be managed. If you don’t know what you are doing or what you have done, you have a hard time progressing.
The most important thing is that you understand the concepts regarding what you eat and what is working for you
Let’s start with your diet. I encourage you to track your calories for just two weeks. Use the Myfitnesspal app and enter everything you eat. I know this can be tedious, but once you get the hang of it, it’s no big deal. The most important thing is that you understand the concepts regarding what you eat and what is working for you. You will catch your slip-ups and be able to change your behaviour. For example, if you notice a high-calorie meal you usually eat during the week, you can make a replacement that alters the excess calories out of your weekly intake.
Track your workouts. Previous clients of mine didn’t have a plan when going to the gym. They were able to just “check the box,” but without having a plan of attack, their progress plateaued. Break your workouts into muscle groups or have a HIIT and Ab day. Make weekly workout plans so you know what you did, and then make adjustments for the next week depending on results. Take note of muscle groups that feel weaker or take longer to recover. For me personally, I break each muscle group down into every day of the week, including two leg days.
I am able to maintain my single-digit body fat percentage by staying consistent and knowing what works for me. This takes time, but once you track what you are doing, you can make corrections as needed.
