Trends, fads, diets, supplements and potions are all the rave in marketing and social media and we are inundated with a plethora of products, studies, tips and hacks to jumpstart our fitness level and lose weight faster. Make no mistake, many of these shortcuts often come with some serious costs and side effects!
The statistics on broken fitness goals and New Year fitness resolutions that go unfulfilled and rarely make it beyond the first week are heartbreaking. According to research, 93% of fitness New Year’s goals go unfulfilled and 30% of New Year’s resolutions/goals are broken the first week!
Studies of The Biggest Loser contestants showed that not only does metabolism slow drastically following significant weight loss but also that regaining the lost weight wreaks havoc on the metabolism and does not restore metabolism to its pre-weight loss levels. This means people who have lost large amounts of weight must adhere to an extremely low-calorie diet to maintain that weight loss. – Desperation is dangerous!
Staggering facts and statistics:
Did you know that dieting alone without exercise/ daily movement is detrimental to your metabolism and is the number one surefire way to decrease your resting metabolic rate, aka the amount of calories your body needs just to sustain life?
Exercise revs your metabolism (especially resistance training and having more lean muscle tissue on your body) while dieting has the opposite effect.
Extremely restrictive diets, even when combined with exercise, slow down your metabolism significantly. Equally bad is the fact that when you go back to your more “normal” way of eating, you’ll gain back the weight lost and often more because of this fact; your metabolic set point is changed and now lower than before and consequently, you require less calories as a result.
I know all about binges and bad eating days and developed my own common sense approach in my younger years that served me well. Being perfect is an impossible and I can tell you from a lot of personal experience, there’s hope…
If you are faced with the consequences of a bad eating day, maybe you overdid it at a party, get-together or a staff function, you can turn it around if you get on it IMMEDIATELY, as in, the next morning! To help others with this (I know I’m not alone), I personally developed my “HELP, I BINGED!” NEXT DAY EMOTIONAL EATING RESCUE FORMULA that will help you remedy the situation and turn it around quickly. It saved me time and time again! It is included as part of my revolutionary Seriously Sexy Legs Program!

It’s not complicated!
These 2 simple points below can catapult your overall fitness!
- Consistency trumps time
Most people believe you need one hour of daily exercise six days a week to get into great shape, I’ve been there and I lived this, but for many, this is not doable, and/or undesirable. The fact is, many people cannot sustain this type of activity level in their daily lives and the good news is, consistency is king and trumps length of your workout! The truth is that even 20 minutes of focused daily training at least 4-5 days per week will yield tremendous benefits.
- The true shortcut to long-term fitness success is to incorporate more overall movement into your daily life.
Simple solutions that add up:
- Take the stairs when possible.
- Walk to the corner store instead of driving
- Walk around when you’re on the phone
- Get a standup desk; it not only helps your posture, but standing burns more calories than sitting
- Stretch and incorporate mobility movements throughout your day; clasp your hands behind your back to offset long periods of sitting and stretch out the chest, which typically becomes tight in prolonged seated positions, etc.
- Incorporate deep, seated yogi squats, which not only stretch out your ankles, achilles and lower legs, but also requires a ton of core strength and helps reinforce better posture. You may not be able to get your heels in contact with the ground at first, but within two weeks of being consistent, you’ll nail it!
- Get active when watching TV; sit without a backrest for several minutes, implement a seated forward fold to stretch tight hamstrings, sit in the side splits position, do 10 pushups every 20 minutes, plank for 60 sec. — Possibilities are endless!
