When we start our fitness journey, we tend to look at the value that we can add to our lives: more steps, more fruits & veggies, more hours of sleep, etc. Where I think we go wrong in this is forgetting to look at where we are taking value AWAY from ourselves first. I want you to think about that for a moment… where do you take away value from yourself?
Every relationship in life is an exchange of value; work relationships, partner relationships, friendships, including the relationship with self. If value is not provided in the relationship, no matter which type, the relationship will crumble or break. Thinking about the relationship you have with yourself, it is the exact same. If you are constantly in a position of taking value away from yourself instead of giving value to yourself, you will find conflict in your identity and journey.
Now, how does this apply to health and fitness? SIMPLE! You can add all the fruits, veggies, extra hours of sleep, and steps that you want, but if you’re not facing yourself in the mirror about what gives you that sinking feeling in your stomach when you look yourself in the eye, you will never be able to own your true potential.
If you are constantly in a position of taking value away from yourself instead of giving value to yourself, you will find conflict in your identity and journey.
Maybe you’re taking value away by the way you speak to yourself. Maybe it’s the constant binges on Netflix that leave you feeling like you have no time. Maybe it’s the amount of alcohol you’re consuming on the weekends that make every Monday a “restart”. Whatever way you are currently taking value away from yourself, I encourage you to take time to find it now. Not only will this make your fitness journey that much more successful, but it will save you a lot of time of feeling like you’re showing up but not getting the results you want.
It’s time to do it differently & own your potential. It’s time to recognize that there is no relationship more valuable than the one that you have with yourself; you’re worthy of value.
