I get asked this question a lot
Why would someone ever want to do something gruelling, competitive, disciplined and what seems like absolute madness to most?
Bodybuilding is a safe space where we can be at peace knowing we are in control of our pain. This type of pain is the kind we asked for, the type we get to call the shots on.
Some people look at it as arrogance and attention-seeking. I look at it as therapy, a creative outlet, and ultimately, art. The discipline is rewarding and the body is enticing, but my why is deeper than that. Like myself, a lot of bodybuilders have lived painful lives prior to finding this sport. Many of us felt trapped in our prior circumstances, feeling like we weren’t living up to who we knew we could be. we felt lost in pain, but in a life knowing nothing else, we were drawn to an outlet that allows us to channel our inner chaos.

As bodybuilders, we don’t know how to lead a life consisting of anything else, and this sport allows us to embody pain that was meant to tear us down and turn into something that builds us up. I call it pain with PASSION. Like anything in life, people will choose to do things for a variety of reasons.
I hope my WHY is going to resonate with other builders who also find peace in their pain.
