WINTER WELLNESS: TRANSFORMING YOUR BLUES INTO BRIGHTER VIEWS

Are you worried that the winter blues will keep you from hitting your goals? Don’t worry – I got you!

This is where I want you to FLIP YOUR SCRIPT & take on this winter with a different mindset than you had in the past. As someone who personally struggles with SAD (seasonal affective disorder), I also recognize the power my mindset has in how bad I allow this season to truly be.

I know that you’ve heard that exercise is just as important for our mental health as it is for our physical health, and hopefully, you have even personally felt those benefits. It’s true that movement completely transforms how we feel mentally, which is why it is even more important to get out there & stay moving throughout the winter months.

If a cloudy, dreary day is keeping you from going outside to get a walk-in, I want you to think again! Science has proven that even on a cloudy day, we receive benefits to our mental health & circadian rhythm from allowing the natural light to get in our eyes. Feel better AND sleep better!? That’s a no-brainer.

The freshness of the crisp air can feel like a complete refresh and let’s be honest, I know that you have those closets filled with winter clothes that you hardly wear so let’s make a commitment to put them to good use this season!

I know that you’ve heard that exercise is just as important for our mental health as it is for our physical health, and hopefully, you have even personally felt those benefits.

If I wanted to turn my winter blues into brighter views, I would implement these tips this winter:

  • Sip on 80 – 150ml of homemade bone broth each morning.
  • Plan for 3 – 4 workouts (home or gym), but schedule them into my calendar like an appointment
  • Go for a post-lunch walk, even if it’s only 15 minutes (or any time of the day when I know there is going to be some natural light).
  • Stay on top of supplements like vitamin D & magnesium bis-glycinate.
  • Utilize a light therapy lamp on days that feel extra dreary.
  • Organize 1 – 2 projects around the house each month that will allow you to feel organized & accomplished this winter.
  • Honor it being a quieter/cozier season and choose 1 – 2 creative projects that will allow you to relax & use your imagination (plus, who doesn’t love a homemade Christmas gift!?)

More than anything, being able to overcome SAD comes down to our mindset & approach. I hope that these tips leave you feeling inspired to take on this winter with a different outlook. Have fun creating a structure that allows you to feel your best while still respecting your rest this season!
